Northwestern Bank, a proud member of the greater Chippewa Valley community since 1904, is currently seeking a Credit Manager. The Credit Manager is a salaried position and reports to the Market President.
Position Summary:
Supervises loan support staff and works directly with Loan Officers to prepare thorough analysis on credit presentations and annual reviews. Responsible for the maintenance of timely customer financial reporting and credit ratings. Performs portfolio risk assessment analysis and actively participates in Loan Committee. Conducts other duties necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this position.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise loan support staff. See Supervisory Responsibilities below for more information.
- Assist Loan Officers with annual loan reviews on all credits over $250K, by conducting financial analysis and risk ratings using Bank spreadsheet software and standard scoring matrix.
- Prepare spreadsheets and conduct analysis of customer’s financial information.
- Assist Loan Officers in preparation and writing of loan write-ups.
- Assist Loan Officers with ordering of required documentation such as credit bureaus and flood determinations.
- Contact credit customers as needed to ensure timely collection of financial statements required by the general loan policy.
- May be responsible to oversee and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management reports and present to management as needed.
- Attend all quarterly loan and CECL meetings.
- Develop a thorough understanding of all bank products both related and unrelated to the Loan Department.
- May be responsible to prepare a variety of monthly and quarterly reports using Microsoft Office Word, Excel and other computer programs. Gathers information for report preparation, performs calculations, proofs work, seeks final approvals, makes copies, distributes, etc.
- May be responsible to prepare and oversee the loan review function.
- May need to work with outside vendors and examiners.
- May be a voting member of the officer loan committee.
- Inform the Bank President and Senior Vice President of loans of any material considerations affecting loan portfolio or policy.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs small loans as needed.
- Assists other Bank employees with questions and concerns relating to loan analysis, loan documentation and consumer collections. Keep up to date on laws, rules, and regulations.
- Cross-sell bank products and services when opportunities arise.
- Perform other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises employees reporting to this position
- Sets a good example and makes the time to communicate with their direct reports regularly (individually and as a group)
- Seeks the input from direct reports on issues affecting their areas of responsibility
- Delegates responsibility to their direct reports, where appropriate.
- Establishes formal means of accountability, provides clear direction, advises of job responsibilities, conducts regular performance appraisals
- Counsels employees on conflict resolution and performance issues or concerns, provides training/advice/coaching where appropriate
- Initiates disciplinary actions where necessary and according to procedure

Work Relationships and Scope:
Reports to Market President. Works closely with Loan Officers, and Loan Support staff regarding analysis and technical exception work. Has occasional contact with attorneys, accountants, other professionals and outside parties relating to loans. Has regular access to highly confidential customer, employee and Bank financial information.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Requires a four-year degree in business, preferably in finance, accounting or economics, and at least two years of previous banking loan/credit experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Must possess: good understanding of accounting, cash flow, financial ratio analysis, and financial institution regulations; ability to input and retrieve computerized information on a PC; good understanding of computerized loan accounting systems; excellent problem solving ability to find errors and determine most desirable solutions; courteous and professional customer service attitude; intermediate mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percents, decimals, algebra, statistical analysis); ability to follow written and verbal instructions; good verbal communication skills for interacting professionally with customers. Must have ability to: compose routine and complex business reports and correspondence; read and interpret technical documents; maintain the integrity of highly confidential customer, Bank and employee information; deal effectively with time pressures and stress. May need to bend, stoop, and lift to move light office materials and retrieve files.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed largely in a pleasant office environment with minimal chance for personal injury. Intermittent sitting and standing and frequent mental and visual concentration for usage of PC required. Work is performed generally during regular business hours. Occasional over night, out-of-town travel may be required to attend seminars, meetings, etc.
Equipment Operated:
Windows based PC (Office software, specifically Excel and Word), Bank software,
Zoho, interaction with Bank’s main frame, internet capabilities including e-mail, computer printers, fax, copier, and telephone.
